Update 12.12.2025 – the Dunkery Beacon Country House Hotel changed hands in 2022 and sadly the new owners decided to make it just a bed and breakfast so the restaurant is now closed. A shame as it was rather good.
The Coleridge Restaurant is an Exmoor hidden gem. Although it’s technically in Somerset rather than North Devon, I’m willing to make exceptions for the things on Exmoor that are worth travelling for, and this definitely fits the bill.

Update 17.12.2025 – Thomas Carr @ The Olive Room became Thomas Carr 1873, but then sadly in 2022 he announced that the restaurant was closing. It looks like he has now relocated to Scarborough and is offering fine dining there instead.
The Olive Room in Ilfracombe is the jewel in North Devon’s foodie crown. Thomas Carr’s culinary genius is guaranteed to deliver a very special meal.

Update 10.03.2018 – Fat Belly Fred’s has sadly closed due to a family bereavement. I am sorry to see them go, but hope to see the chef Geoff take up work in another foodie establishment in northern Devon.
